Estate sale find lovely little mid century japanese music box. Box is lacquered wood and hand-painted with a bamboo design on lid. Winds at the bottom and works by pulling out the little white plastic knob on the side. I believe the song is "some enchanted evening" from the 1949 musical'south pacific'.
Music box inside is loose and rattles a bit when box is turned over. Box has no major damage but shows some slight wear/age and a couple of discolored places on edges (see pic #8). There is also a tiny bit of paint loss on bottom under winding key. Stands about 4" tall and 4.625" in diameter. Use for jewelry, trinkets, change, or even loose face/body powder. Pic #9 is a catalog image from the 1950s that shows examples of similar music boxes (image not included in listing). Note - my items are vintage/gently used, not factory new. And as always, i'm happy to send additional photos or info if needed i love happy customers thank you for taking a look at my little shop. It also continues the item's long history and keeps it from going to a landfill. Which is a nice thing for mother earth. For fun photos, pop culture, & fun memories check me out at.
