Antique gold foil enamel sterling silver Birmingham England 1939 covered vanity dresser jar with mirror in the lid

A golden beige guilloché enamel handled lid tops this antique 1939 english vanity jar. The lid is of solid sterling silver with a mirror set inside and the jar is of cut crystal glass.

Guilloché is a decorative technique in which a very precise, intricate and repetitive pattern is mechanically engraved into an underlying material (in this case sterling silver). The lid has an asymmetrical engraved design with one herringbone patterned strip that flows across one quadrant. The rest of the top has a repeating wavy pattern.

The raised knob handle has the same design at a micro level, minus the herringbone pattern. Both components are topped by a vibrant golden beige enamel. This lid has great optics to it with a beautiful glow as the light hits it from different angles, giving it a three-dimensional wave. The lid signed, "ag" (unknown maker). It is also stamped with a lion (english sterling silver), anchor (birmingham, england) and date letter "p" (1939).

The cut crystal bowl is round with an art deco geometric cut pattern rounding the outside and bottom. The lidded box measures approx. 5 inches in diameter x 3 inches tall with handle lid. This piece may be great for storing jewelry, cotton balls or other precious tiny things. There is one tiny flea bite to inner lip of crystal jar.

The mirror has some movement within its setting. The mesmerizing enamel is in very fine condition. Height: 3 inches with lid handle. Condition: very good antique condition with vintage patina and vintage age wear to the silver; one tiny flea bite to inner lip of crystal jar; mirror has some movement within its setting; enamel is in very fine condition.

Each vintage piece has been examined by a graduate gemologist. Stone carat weights stated represent approximate weights which can vary by the limitations of measuring set gems. Due to the age, antique & vintage jewelry and sterling objects are often not perfect, and may have normal signs of surface wear, or small imperfections due to hand crafting or production in a long gone era rather than mass-manufactured nature.

This is what makes each piece special and unique. This item is made of sterling silver and jewelry, lidded, guilloche, enamel, english, cut crystal, glass, jar, birmingham england, golden beige, vintage, handle.
