1930s Dubarry Talcum Powder Box Art Deco Crinoline Lady Illustration

A lovely antique heavy-cardboard box, a, rare survivor from the c. The box is for dubarry talcum powder, fairly plain on the outside but with a beautiful advertising illustration inside the lid. Outside is covered with marbled brown paper, a little scuffed with some of the paper torn on the lid, some scratches and rubbing. On the lid is a sticker in blue, white and rubbed gold showing a woman and a cherub, reading'dubarry's talcum powder'.

The front of the box also has a long sticker reading'golden morn' for the colour of the powder and the back of the box has a tiny printed green sticker which gives the'retail price' as two shillings. Inside the box, there is some foxing to the base which is left plain.

The real joy is the inside of the lid, which is a beautiful, bright advertising piece. In lovely vibrant colours, it shows a woman in an orange crinoline dress, standing on a terrace with a big purple and green plant in an urn behind her and trees and strings of lights in the distance.

Very stylish and very art deco the colours are still bright, protected by the box. The advertising reads'dubarry's talcum powder gives a satin-like smoothness to the skin'.

At the bottom, where the box hinges, reads'for cool sweet fragrant comfort' and'made in england'. A rare survivor, in lovely but worn condition so please see all photos. 9cm wide across the front, 13.5cm long and 4cm deep. This item is made of heavy card, thick card and paper.
