Antique blue guilloché sterling silver with gold vermeil (1939 London England) covered cut glass vanity dresser jar
A wonderful cornflower blue guilloché enamel lid tops this antique 1939 english vanity jar. The lid is of solid sterling silver with a gold vermeil finish. Guilloché is a decorative technique in which a very precise, intricate and repetitive pattern is mechanically engraved into an underlying material (in this case sterling silver).

This particular pattern starts with a floral or sun-shape at the center with repetitive radiating lines, all topped by a vibrant blue enamel. This lid has great optics to it with a beautiful glow as the light hits it from different angles, giving it a three-dimensional wave.

The cut crystal bowl is round with an art deco gem-style cut pattern rounding the outside. A starburst decorates the bottom. The lid has a worn maker's hallmark that starts with an "n" and has a super worn cartouche following.

It is also stamped with a lion (english sterling silver), leopard face (london, england) and date letter "d" (1939). The outside and inner of the lid has some loss of gold finish and patina to silver underneath. There is also some old tape remnants inside. The lidded box measures approx.

4 inches in diameter x 1 1/2 inches tall. This piece may be great for storing jewelry, cotton balls or other precious tiny things. There is some minor surface wear to the enamel and crystal bottom with one 13mm long scratch on base of jar. The mesmerizing enamel is in very fine condition. Condition: very good antique condition with vintage patina and vintage age wear to the silver, loss of gold finish; enamel is in very fine condition with some minor surface age wear, 13mm scratch on crystal jar bottom.

Each vintage piece has been examined by a graduate gemologist. Stone carat weights stated represent approximate weights which can vary by the limitations of measuring set gems. Due to the age, antique & vintage jewelry and sterling objects are often not perfect, and may have normal signs of surface wear, or small imperfections due to hand crafting or production in a long gone era rather than mass-manufactured nature. This is what makes each piece special and unique.
