The slip-on lid is original to the piece and fits snugly on the top. As an antique item, the jar shows appropriate signs of age including rubbed hallmarks and light scratches/minor dents to the lid along with some light scratches and chips/nicks to the surface of the crystal, all of which are noted for accuracy. The piece stands 2.75 tall to the tallest point of the domed lid.
The neck of the jar is 2" across as measured from the outside edges and the base is 3" across at its widest point. The sterling lid is 2.5" across at its widest point and 2.25" across at the rim.The top of the lid is fully hallmarked with the birmingham assay office mark, the lion passant indicating sterling silver, and the date letter "i" indicating production in 1908. It also carries the william james myatt & co maker's mark reading "wjm & co" in a shield. The dresser jar and lid have a combined weight of 6.5 oz with the lid itself weighing 14.5 grams. This cut crystal dresser jar displays beautifully and would be a great addition to a collection of edwardian sterling silver lidded vanity jars.
Use it to store special treasures or showcase it on its own as a decorative accent. A very pretty and practical piece.
