Antique Hair Receiver Bohemian Glass Enameled Victorian Violets Vintage Puff Powder Box Vanity Boudoir Casket
What a nice little find. A pretty antique bohemian glass hair receiver or vanity box for your dressing table. What a nice little find dating to the late victorian era of the 1890s, this antique bohemian glass hair receiver is made up of clear glass with frosted and hand enameled details. I have never seen a hair receiver like this before, so cute. It is about 2-3/4 inches tall and 4 inches in diameter with a 1-3/8 inch hole in the top. The rim of the hole has small chips all around, it was either from the grinding process during manufacturing or possibly someone's rings nicking it while putting hair inside. The box is accented with hand painted violets and leaves in thick white, purple and green enamel and accented with gilding. There is some wear to the gilding.
The box has a brass mounting and hinge. No cracks in the glass. A hair receiver is a small pot, with a hole in the lid, kept on the dressing table in the victorian era to store hair removed from brushes and combs. The hair was recycled in a number of waysnotably for stuffing small bags, about 810 centimetres (34 in) across, called ratts, used to bulk out women's hairstyles.
A pretty antique bohemian glass vanity box for your dressing table. Good condition for something about 130 years old. This item is made of brass, glass and enamel.
