Art nouveaux edwardian vintage cut-glass vanity jar with solid sterling silver lid. Lid is fully hallmarked 1902 and maker adie & lovekin ltd, a well-known birmingham silversmith firm. The jar itself is finely cut crystal glass with a classic elegant starburst and crosshatch pattern.
The lid features an ornate repoussé design with intricate floral and scrollwork details, and is hallmarked to the side. Includes a central blank cartouche space in the middle of the lid typically intended for engraving initials, a monogram, or a personal inscription. If you plan to gift this piece, it could still be engraved with initials or a design to add a personal touch. This type of jar was commonly used as a powder jar or a trinket jar on a dressing table. It would have been part of a lady's vanity set, used for storing face powder, creams, jewellery or other small personal items. Given the maker's mark and craftsmanship, this piece is a fine example of edwardian silver and cut glass work, making it a collectible antique. A couple of very tiny nicks on glass but so hard to spot.
Small dink to the top cartouche area. Lid is slightly misshapen in two areas at the sides - possibly from the original pressing of the design on the lid. Measurements: 6.5 cm x 5cm. Please note: i have other silver dresser pots including a matching adie and lovekin jar from 1900 in my listings.Would look great as a pair. Information about adie & lovekin.
