An antique estate find, the smaller sized sterling top dresser jar has a very appealing repousse pattern with little forget me not flowers and swirled design with foliate. Within the lovely design, there is a makers mark smh as well as great britain birmingham sterling hallmarks; anchor, lion passant and lower case f dating the dresser jar to year 1905. The gorgeous sterling screw lid is atop a simple faceted glass base with an octagon shape. These jars were used by ladies for powder, rouge or perfume adorning their dressing table. They are also called puff jars.
Imagine the romantic dresser accessories of the victorian and art nouveau eras in the boudoir how very romantic.
