Unusual art deco eight-sided box with a beige cotton lining and bespoke glass liner. This lovely piece has a bevelled round mirror, the shallow glass bowl could be for loose face powder which would have been applied with a luxurious goose-down puff this could have been used when travelling, it has a tiny brass hinged catch closure and all is in good order inside and out. It is nicely covered in a faux shagreen paper which adds an element of luxury to the piece and is in very good condition. The lid is hinged, closes as it should, and has a great mirror that has some foxing to the perimeter, but no distortion or damage. I have gently cleaned the shagreen finish to remove years of grime and waxed it carefully.
This has lifted the colour and will help protect this most unusual piece for the future. I have not seen another and it's amazing to have its original handmade glass liner. Possible a french piece, 1920's. Diam of mirror 9 cm.
