Surrounding this are elegant shells and scrolls. Top is fitted and lifts off the powder box. It is gilded on the interior. Cut crystal portion has a star and diamond pattern with a rounded form. 3 high x 3-3/4 at widest (hard to measure).
Top is 3 in diameter. Based on this numbering system (106/4831), we believe the piece was made between 1880 and 1894. They were an important participant in defining the american aesthetic movement of the time, competing with gorham and tiffany. Condition: silver has deep patina in the recesses setting off the design, as well as along the rolled rim below the repoussé work (polish to taste). We don't see any dents or distortions. Crystal has scratching on the bottom and several areas of chipping, all appropriate for its age and use (some pointed out in a photo).
None is distracting to our eyes. The top rim is in good shape with a tiny nip or two. This is a heavy piece because of the crystal: combined weight 344.6g (12.15 oz). This item is made of sterling silver 925 and cut crystal.
