Vintage 1935 Sterling silver blue Art Deco guilloche tall jar Birmingham England Adie Brothers

A pretty blue guilloché enamel lid tops this antique 1935 english vanity jar by the adie brothers of birmingham, england. The lid is of solid sterling silver with an engraved art deco design.

Guilloché is a decorative technique in which a very precise, intricate and repetitive pattern is mechanically engraved into an underlying material (in this case sterling silver). This particular lid pattern has repetitive radiating curvy lines with a flower motif, all topped by a vibrant blue enamel. This lid has great optics to it with a beautiful glow as the light hits it from different angles, giving it a three-dimensional look. The tall skinny glass jar is meant for a vanity.

The lid is signed "a bros ltd" hallmark attributed to adie bros. It is also stamped with a lion (english sterling silver), anchor (birmingham, england) and date letter "l" (1935). The lidded jar measures approx. 1 5/16 inches by 1 1/16 inches with a 6 3/8-inch height.

This piece may be great for storing make-up brushes. There are a few tiny nicks to the glass and may be other minor wear. The mesmerizing enamel is in very fine condition. Total wt: 144.9 grams.
