VTG Art Deco France Verlys Flowers Powder Box or vanity jar W/Lid Signed. Flowers have gold highlighting and some gold is missing.

The bottom bowl part has a gold edge around the bottom. Does have 2 small bubbles and 2 very small ones which you can see in photos.

One Flea bite on edge of lid. The Verlys Company has an interesting history in that they started out making car headlights.

Per information I found on the web, this company was founded in the late 1890s in London and came across to the United States to open an office in Manhattan a few years later. They made the headlights in France and were known as the Holophane glass company. Around the same time that the head lamps were being made Rene Lalique was making beautiful art deco designs with glass. The Holophane company noted what Lalique was doing and launched their own art glass division called the Verriere d'Andelys.

The name "Verlys" is a combination of "Ver" from Verriere and "lys" from Les Andelys. They had two locations, one in France and one in Newark, Ohio. Verlys produced clear, frosted, opalescent, and colored items with designs similar to Lalique style glass of the 1930's-plants, flowers, birds, fish and abstract geometrical patterns. The design on this powder or bon bon dish is a beautiful 9 flower bouquet in the center with small flowers surrounding the bouquet. The large flowers centers are highlighted in gold and raised.

This powder or bon bon dish is signed in 2 different places. It is signed in the middle of the bottom glass base- Verlys France see photo. It is also signed on the edge of the lid, right hand side- Verlys France see photo. This dish is large and heavy. It weighs 2 pounds 4.5 ounces before it is even packed.

It is roughly 6 ½ inches round, and 2 inches tall due to the molded flower design being higher than the edge. The color of the dish is pink/purple frosted with gold accents. Please review the photos as they are part of the description.
